Why Copper Darkens — And Why We Let It

Copper reacts. Left to itself it moves from bright rose through amber to a deep, settled bronze, and the recesses of a braid go darker still. We seal almost nothing, because a sealed braid stops telling the truth about its wearer. If you want the original glow back, a copper cloth and two minutes will do it — but most people stop wanting that after the first year.
